The lady that made my hair did if sooo well but she was super slow and then handed the hair over to a trainee stylist who didn’t have much experience and was even much slower… Ended up spending many hrs for a simple wash and blow dry. Had to complain before the speed picked up.

I came in for a wash and blow dry (very straight forward). I wasn’t expecting a super smooth blowout, I just wanted to prep my hair for getting box braids the next day. I was excited to try a local salon that specializes in afro hair. I arrived 15 mins early but I wasn’t seen by a stylist until approx 20 mins after my scheduled appointment time. Not a big deal as I wasn’t in a rush to be anywhere, I was glad once I was finally in the chair. However, my stylist was doing another client’s hair whilst doing mine and what should have taken 45 mins took nearly 2 hours. My hair was washed, conditioned and detangled with a tangle teaser. Then I was left at the sink for an extended period of time while my hair dried and got tangled again. At some point I was asked to sit off to the side on a stool with my hair dripping since another stylist needed one of the sinks. Shortly after I sat down in the chair, my stylist she said to her other client “I’ll be with you shortly”. I have shoulder length 4B hair, it takes a long time to blow dry so I was nervous when she said this. She went in with the blowdryer + comb attachment and started raking through my hair. It was tangled and I could hear/feel my hair breaking. About halfway through I asked if she could please detangle it, to which she replied “wasn’t it detangled earlier?” I said, yes they did but since quite a bit of time passed my hair dried and tangled again. She detangled it and it was ok from there. Then she suggested that my hair wouldn’t get so tangled if I got regular trims or if I had chosen to do a moisture treatment. I told her I got it cut 2 months ago. When I was done she asked if I wanted it in a ponytail. She struggled to get it into the hair elastic which should have been a sign that the blow dry wasn’t done very well. I’m surprised she was ok having me walk out of the salon looking like that. I am sure she is capable of doing a good job styling 4B hair. I think she was just running behind schedule and decided to rush through my hair since I booked what should have been a simple service. I could have done a better blow dry myself but I wanted to go to a salon as a treat after a long couple of weeks. I ended up leaving feeling worse than when I came in. It was an upsetting experience as it wasn’t cheap and my hair was done by a senior stylist (I won’t name shame). The worst part is I was charged extra by my braider the next day because she had to blow dry my hair again because it wasn’t stretched out enough for her to braid. The atmosphere was nice and everyone there was friendly. I rarely write critical reviews and I really wanted to like this place but I think this needs to be said. I won’t give 1 star because I know they’re a new salon (I think one year old). I think they can improve by allowing more time between bookings so that they aren’t rushing.

I think there was some miscommunication when I booked my appointment over the phone. I thought I was seeing a regular stylist but at the end of my session I was charged £60 for my wash and hair cut so I assume that my hair was cut by the artistic director. To be honest, the hair cut does not look great and certainly doesn't reflect the amount it cost. I've had a few haircuts over the years in that price range as a treat and they all looked noticeably better than my current cut. This might have been my misunderstanding again that I needed to have asked (and pay extra) to have it styled. As it stands, I paid £60 for a haircut that just didn't come out great for any amount of money (the phrase "you look like you got a monk's hair cut" has come up more than once). I moved to the area recently and was very excited to try a local salon that specialised in curly hair but was disappointed that I had better results going to a Turkish barber which cost far less. Less important, but still very noticeable, during my visit it felt like there were a number of slip ups: I was asked if I wanted a drink after we were already started (wouldn't have been possible to drink at this point), was asked if I wanted to keep my side burns after the hair cut was finished and was asked if I wanted to see the back of my head with a mirror after I was already standing getting ready to leave. Also, I think your clippers were low on battery (they sounded slow and tugged a bit when cutting). The whole experience left me feeling like I was an afterthought as a customer and I don't think this reflects what you are aiming for as a company. I will say the customers before me were clearly thrilled with the cuts you gave them so clearly something is going right, just not in my case. Best of luck going forward.
