I'm neurodivergent and haircuts are among the most awkward and unpleasant things for me to do. I literally started just shaving my head so I wouldn't have to go have someone cut my hair. Smells, sounds, strangers, small talk, being touched are all things I find difficult. It's very rare for me to go to any salon or barber more than once - or at all - unless I really have to. But I bought a gift certificate for a friend and she had a really positive experience so I decided to give Chaps a try. The atmosphere is great, first of all. Very laid-back and retro, but with a lot of open space so you don't feel crowded or uncomfortable, and it's not overly loud. Actually, for a salon, it's pretty quiet. Ellie is really great at putting you at ease and getting conversation going, but not forcing it, either. She explained what and why she was doing things as she was doing them and overall just has a very chill vibe, which made it a lot easier to relax. So now Chaps is where I'll be going for my regular haircut and I may even try some of their other services, too. Oh, and as a bonus, for the service you get, they are crazy affordable. I've paid way more for way less at other salons.
