After waiting 3 months to get an appointment and being hugely excited to have my hair done by a curly specialist. Following Instagram, admiring all the transformations created and wanted to have that experience myself. However, I reluctantly have to say I was sorely disappointed all round. I booked another appointment elsewhere the following morning to sort my hair out at another Aveda salon near me. I burst into tears as I greeted my husband when I got home. When I booked in I was walked through the lovely salon and taken down into the basement for the duration of my visit. I was mixed up with someone else and I was kept waiting 20-30 mins for my appointment to start. I ‘came with an open mind’ but asked that I would like to keep the length but would like a vibrant colour way and happy to leave a ‘few greys’...... what I got was a slight change in colour and the majority of my greys still proudly on show...... not just a few.. by the time we had finished drying my hair I just wanted to get out and see daylight. But the best was yet to come........ As I went to pay the bill, I told the stylist I would like all the products used so I could recreate as best I can at home. She looked at me shocked and said ‘this will be quite a lot of money you know...........’ I bit my tongue paid the money and left. I spend on average £200-£250 at my local salon every 6 weeks and was prepared to travel the 130 mile round trip for what I thought to be one of the best hairdressers in the area. My hair is my pride and joy and hopefully tomorrow It will be again.

Ali was rude and unwelcoming. I came to the front desk and said I had an appointment with Ali and she just got up without saying that was her or otherwise introducing herself and sat me downstairs then left me for a good while. There was hair on the floor. When I asked for what I wanted (to try and grow my hair out while still keeping a round shape) I was told she couldn’t do that and it was one or the other and I would have to go short or lose the shape/volume. Overall she was unfriendly and made me feel like I was a hassle to her just by being there. I was clearly in physical discomfort with the hair drying process but she didn’t seem to care. To make it worse I hated the cut and it’s grown out terribly - so much weight in the front it’s given me a sort of frizzy quiff. I’ve also had to get a friend to give me an undercut herself just to fix the back. Really disappointed with a very expensive haircut.

I only visited the salon purely on the fact that the specialise in curly hair. It was my first visit to the salon and had only read about it online. I was extremely underwhelmed by poor layout of the salon, and the filth on the floors, walls and ceilings. Considering the premium prices charged at the salon, I was flabbergasted to see cobwebs in most corners of the salon. Matted hair underneath the reception desk (probably about 5mm) and it wasn't something from the same day either... it looked to be stuck to the floor. Hygiene does not seem to be a priority in this salon! don't go!! As for the styling, I was quite perplexed to see that all 5 people in the salon walked out with the same (or very close to) style. It seems to be a one size fits all approach to hairdressing. They've obviously discovered a formula that they all rinse and repeat for all customers. It felt like I was at cruft's and I walked out like a poodle... not in a good way! Now the web site... wow talk about wordy and poorly designed. This salon is all about Instagram and how to look perfect in a repeatable way that rings the till over and over! Overall I would not recommend or return to the salon.

In summary, my experience was that I felt ignored and judged. I had a good first impression with a drink on arrival. However this seemed to quickly go downhill, as during the initial fact finding session we discussed how my hair goals, what I currently do with my hair and what my hair is like. I stated that I wanted to grow my hair, how in the past I probably didn't use enough moisture and due to past excessive straightening experienced alot of breakage that's prevented my hair from growing to the length I wanted. During this time my stylist said it looked like my hair had "had two different haircuts" and one of the first questions she asked me was whether I was on medication. She then said she needed to talk to another stylist (who was with another client at the time) and said I should probably talk to a doctor if I was experiencing this breakage. At this point I felt very judged, that my hair was abnormal and I broke down in tears. I wasn't expecting this from a salon that specialised in curly hair and that I was paying a premium price point for. This is exactly the reason I have worked up so much anxiety in the past about going to hairdressers. At least prior hairdressers I've been to haven't charged 3 figures for a haircut. For the rest of the cut, I was moved downstairs, likely for myself and everyone elses comfort. I had a good talk with the stylist and resolved some of the issues that upset me, but ultimately I felt like I was getting my hair cut by someone with straight hair who's not had the same experience as me, in terms of having deep-rooted insecurity surrounding their hair and the uphill battle of learning how to manage it. During the styling session I was asked if I "had a boyfriend" that I was going out with after. I know this was from a good place and trying to make conversation, but it was another sore point of the conversation that stuck out to me and made me feel a bit miserable (recent break-up). A better question that would have avoided that uncomfortableness would have been, "do you have plans to go out after this?" - boyfriends not being necessary in the equation. The haircut I got was short and didn't retain any of the length I asked for. During the styling, I was trying to engage and ask questions, but most got answered badly or by talking about something different, so I didn't really learn anything. There was no effort for conversation made by either of us during the 30 minutes of diffusing. My hair felt quite slimy afterwards. I was really excited for this appointment but the whole experience was disappointing and not worth the money. Overall, there are many other salons that could cut my hair too short and uneven in places for a fraction of the cost. I would consider going back, but certainly not for a long time and certainly not with the same stylist.

For what was offered, the haircut seemed quite overpriced. I typically go to bonomini and find their environment much more professional and I am much more willing to pay the price for what is offered there. I overheard another stylist speaking to a client and she was quite rude to a client that was upset.

I really hate my haircut. I cried all the walk home. I’d asked to keep the length, but I wanted my hair to be healthy and the split ends to be removed. Maybe I just didn’t understand how much was going to be cut off but I feel like it was way more than the stylist said it would be. She also suggested that some of the pieces around my face be a little shorter, but I didn’t realise she meant to cut them to my cheekbones. I hate them. I also didn’t feel like we spent enough time chatting in the pre-interview. She cut my hair very quickly, I felt like most of the time I was there was spent having my hair washed or dried. Some people really enjoy the pampering experience, but I just wanted a good hair cut for my curly hair. I felt like I was paying for someone to wash and carefully dry my hair, and try and sell me products.
